Support Work Sydney

Support Work at Direct Focus Solutions

Support workers play a vital role in providing vulnerable members of our communities in Sydney with the individualised care that they require. At Direct Focus Solutions, our support work team applies their training and professionalism to significantly improve our client’s quality of life. Our team assists individuals who are unable to live independently by offering them both the practical assistance that they need, as well as any emotional supports required.

Support workers provide professional disability and community supports for clients of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. Each support worker is responsible for the safety and wellbeing of the clients under their care and supervision. At Direct Focus Solutions, our support workers are able to provide assistance to clients throughout the greater Sydney region in a number of ways, which include but are not limited to:

  • Developing life skills
  • Enhancing community participation
  • Building confidence and independence
  • Facilitating social engagement through individual and group community activities
  • Practical supports (household tasks and the requirements of daily living)
  • Supervising the taking of medication
  • Personal care (toileting, grooming, hygiene, etc.)
  • Companionship and emotional support

The kinds of activities our support workers undertake with their clients are individualised to suit their unique needs, goals, and abilities. For example, a support worker may potentially assist a client with an intellectual disability to help them gain confidence in learning and applying life skills through effectively modelling common social interactions, and then help the client to put their learning into practice by taking them to the shops and supervising their interactions with others in the community.

As another example, a support worker might assist a client with mobility concerns by providing transport to different places within the community, such as going between their home and the bank or community centre, etc. Support workers might also further assist this client by helping their local community group adopt accommodations for their disability so that they are better able to participate in activities for fun and recreation.

Direct Focus Solutions is able to provide support work services for clients from a variety of sources, including the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). Our support workers have experience in assisting a range of clients with diverse presentations such as:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • ADD / ADHD
  • Intellectual disabilities

  • Managing challenging behaviours (absconding, aggression, etc.)
  • Professional boundaries and compassion
