If you’ve been keeping up with the news, you’re likely aware that governments around the world have been interested in expanding the telehealth capacities of their respective health sectors. For many of us, this is the first time we’ve ever heard the term ‘telehealth.’ So what does it mean and how does it help us?

We’re all familiar with what the health sector is and what it does. So ‘tele’ is the word we’re interested in. It means ‘far’ or ‘distant’ in Greek, and is the root of words like ‘telephone’ (meaning “sound over a distance.”) So, telehealth means “health over a distance!”

Telehealth services occur through telecommunications technologies such as phones and the internet. It can be used for a number of purposes, such as exchanging medical information, client remote monitoring, and most importantly: allowing clients to consult with their clinicians or support workers without having to meet face-to-face!

Like many others in the health sector, Direct Focus Solutions, in response to the Australian Government Department of Health guidelines regarding COVID-19, has expanded our telehealth services to better safeguard or clients and staff. Telehealth services allow us to implement home programs and remote support for our clients over the long and short term, all while maintaining appropriate social distancing for the coming months.

In times like these it’s important to make the best use of tools available to you and strive for innovation in your field. This is why telehealth is so important to us: It allows us to continue servicing the community by utilising tools that are free and accessible to everyone, such as web conferencing technology and social media.
