Terissa believes in utilising a positive approach when it comes to communicating with her clients. For example, endeavouring to engage with clients through using their own interests as a part of a therapy session. This helps clients to open up and feel comfortable in an unfamiliar setting. Terissa strives to build practical and functional goals for her clients, removing the clinical aspect of her therapy sessions wherever she can. She finds that this promotes the best overall outcome for her clients.
Other techniques used by Terissa include the use of educational apps, table based activities, books, and a number of games throughout a therapy session. This helps her clients, especially children, to relax enough to start talking and engaging in the session.
Terissa is a Hanen trained speech therapist who holds a current practicing membership with Speech Pathology Australia. She has experience in performing assessments and in applying evidence based intervention therapies for children, adolescents and adults.
Terissa has experienced working in primary schools as a classroom support worker. She has also worked in community health centres, aged care facilities, and hospitals in both acute and rehabilitation settings. She has additionally worked in private practice to treat adults, adolescents, and children.
Her variety of experiences have helped refine her methods of working with her clients to create a much more effective overall therapy session. Terissa enjoys her profession as it enables her to assist those who may need help with their language, literacy and overall speech.
