Ruby Hansen-Tarrant

Support Worker

Ruby is a social work student at the University of Wollongong. She has recently joined the industry because of her passion for individual and community wellbeing. Originally hailing from far western NSW before moving to Newcastle, Ruby discovered a passion for supporting the needs of others while assisting her local Meals-on-Wheels service every week. This passion continues to motivate her today, along with her belief that all individuals have the inherent right to live a meaningful and fulfilling life. In her spare time, Ruby enjoys cooking, photography and cultivating her rapidly growing collection of indoor plants.

Ruby’s approach to support work is centred around building connections with and working alongside an individual and their community. This allows her to work towards fulfilling their dreams and aspirations. Ruby is a firm believer that people are the experts of their own lives. She seeks to uphold this principle at all times during her support work.

Ruby has gained practical experience in the industry through her university placements. In particular, she has experience in working with young people who are living with intellectual disabilities. This includes individuals who are on the autism spectrum, or who are experiencing mental health issues. Ruby has no preference for who she works with, so long as she feels she has the skills and experience necessary to best support them in achieving their goals.
