Group Programs

Direct Focus Solutions provides a variety of opportunities for community participation by allowing access to our group programs. With support from our psychology and occupational therapy team, groups are structured to be activity focused, graded and tailored to the participants, and encourage generalisation of skills across settings.

A Recipe For Social Skilling

A Recipe for Social Skilling aims to give participants in vivo social support whilst building foundations such as self-regulation, sensory integration and vocational skills. Cooking is used as a platform to scaffold engagement and interaction both within the group as well as the broader community.

Each session focuses on building foundational skills needed for interaction within a group setting and the broader community. Groups typically run for two hours facilitated by an occupational therapist in consultation with our principal psychologist. We focus on tailored activities that align with each individual within the group.

Coordination and Stability Program

Our Coordination and Stability Program uses physical and mental elements of athletics and martial arts to build self-control and regulation. Fundamental principles in development such as body awareness, self-regulation, and postural stability will be the foundation of each session. Group interaction will contribute to social integration skills. The program is fun and flexible.

Sessions are led by an experienced instructor and supervised by an occupational therapist to provide specific graded movement and stability exercises for each participant. Sessions can be one on one or in groups of 3-4 depending on the needs of the individual.

The program is developed to suit children and adults who may experience (but are not limited to):

  • Difficulty with following instructions
  • Low muscle tone and poor postural control
  • Sensory Processing Disorders
  • Dyspraxia or other coordination disorders comorbid with Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD

All group programs are within the NDIS funding stream guidelines

Business Integration Initiative

The Business Integration Initiative incorporates a performance enhancement approach in partnership with community business stakeholders that allows you to personally and professionally succeed in all parts of your life. The initiative is an intensive approach incorporating assessment, goal setting, and take home strategies. This is supported by an integrated network including health and wellbeing practitioners, small businesses, and significant others (family/friends).

A tailored program is developed and implemented which includes opportunity for employment whilst receiving access to health and wellbeing support. A tentative program outline may includes:

  • Assessment and review on physical and mental function
  • Employment with participating business
  • Weekly participating business review
  • Psychological and OT strategies
