Human beings have a remarkable capacity to accept change. It may not seem like it, but the last few decades have seen some of the biggest societal changes in human history: mass media and communications, advanced medical technologies, the internet, growing educational knowledge and attainment, globalisation, and more progressive and tolerant understandings of sex, gender and relationships, just to name a few!

You may never have thought about these things in detail, or simply accept these aspects of society without hesitation. This just goes to show you how easily humans can acclimatise to new settings and contexts.

Covid-19 has the potential to be an impetus of great change societally. Time will tell whether our response to this situation will ultimately prove beneficial or negligent. One thing is for certain: Covid-19 has exposed the cracks that lay at the foundation of our prior work culture. As informed citizens, we must continue to push for quality workplaces that maintain the health and safety of their workers. And most importantly; to permit an appropriate degree of flexibility to allow workers to maintain their physical and mental health and wellbeing when they are sick, or when challenging circumstances arrive, such as the present.

Keep safe, keep healthy, and encourage your workplace to act in the best interests of the health and wellbeing of its workers and customers. Together we can lay the foundation of a positive change in our society.
